Questioned Document Examination is the Forensic Discipline that applies scientific knowledge and techniques to examine and identify the documents in question or dispute. The questions posted in relation to the documents may include authenticity, forgery, alteration, tampering, damage, origin, ownership, etc.

To investigate a questioned document, there will generally need to be a media with handwriting, computer printing, typewriting, signatures, or other markings inputted by a human or machine. The document itself does not have to be paper — it can be any material or object.
