LIFTING THE STANDARDS OF ELEVATOR SAFETY WITH AGI

posted on March 22, 2021 / IN Fire and Explosion Investigation /

Lifts are key machines in any multi-story building and help save thousands of hours in valuable time, energy and effort. To ensure that they consistently work and serve you better, regular maintenance is very important as a lift that is not installed properly or maintained regularly is a ticking time bomb.

Having your lift regularly serviced is a legal requirement and rightfully so. A well-maintained lift not only works in tip-top condition but also greatly reduces the risks of accidents, faulty parts, shorter lifespan (and a hefty bill on unexpected repairs down the line).

In Malaysia, Lift and Escalator maintenance is governed by the Departmental of Safety and Health (DOSH) or in Bahasa Malaysia, Jabatan Keselamatan Dan Kesihatan Pekerjaan, JKKP in short. One of many JKKP roles is to issue a PMA (permit to operate) to Lift and Escalator owners.

Legal requirements – maintenance for lifts to be conducted:

  1. At least once every month by a trained technician employed by a lift company registered with JKKP
  2. Quarterly inspection by Lift Competent Person (CP)
  3. Annual inspection by a JKKP inspector and CP to renew the PMA

Lifts that are used in commercial buildings such as malls, office spaces, and residential units are subject to more frequent use and may require maintenance with higher frequency whereas those for personal usage in mansions, bungalows, where PMA is not required, should be serviced at least two to three times a year.

Already have lifts that are serviced regularly? Great! But how do you know that the service you are receiving is up to par?

While it is true that JKKP mandated lift inspections do follow proper inspection regulations, these simply cannot take the place of a scientific lift audit. Having a lift audit of your regular maintenance plan allows you to rest easy knowing that you have received the full service promised to you by the lift service provider, down to the last nut and bolt.

A key part of a stellar lift audit is having the right people to do the job for you. Approved Group International (AGI) has added lift auditing to our list of services offered and there is no better team for it out there than us.

Hiring us as your chosen team of professionals comes with its own host of benefits, namely:

Industry-standard Experts – AGI’s Board of Advisors includes a Professional Engineer (IR) with Practicing Certificate from the Board of Engineers Malaysia, and he is also a Lift Competent Person Grade 1 registered with JKKP. This is the highest lift professional ranking certified by the Malaysian government ensuring our services are of expert level, reliable and delivered with uncompromised quality.

Decades of Experience – With over 20 years’ experience investigating lift damages, we have detected many exaggerated insurance claims, making us highly knowledged and uniquely qualified in lift audit. We will get the job done efficiently and effectively through a detailed inspection.

Independent Firm – AGI operates as an independent audit firm and is not tied to any lift company. This allows us to focus on our client’s individual needs and cater to them accordingly without third-party involvement.

At AGI, we follow an industry-standard lift maintenance checklist, leaving no stone unturned as we look at the inside, outside and on top of the car as well as the machine room and in the pit to ensure your elevators are running at their best.

This audit service does not only apply to those who have had regular lift maintenance carried out before. If you are the owner of brand-new lifts or are modernizing the lifts, we will audit them for you to ensure that your purchase was delivered as promised by your chosen elevator company. Any discrepancies or inconsistencies that are found will be highlighted immediately, allowing you to get it rectified with no time wasted.

With this improved reliability, you can rest easy knowing that your building’s elevators are up to Malaysian and International standards and their safety is not an issue but a guarantee.
